I spent a fascinating evening on Monday at a fine London hotel hosted by TAG Heuer where these watches were on display. We were privileged to listen to a very technical explanation from Guy Semon (Head of R&D) on the latest developments by his department. It would be irresponsible of me to even summarise what he told us and for the most part it went straight over my head but I gather number 3 and 4 in the picture are prototypes with a magnet driven movement forming the double tourbillon …. I think. We got to handle these watches and compared to my yachting Carrera, they are rather large but exception pieces of modern engineering. They really are pushing hard on their in-house movements and the quest for originality and innovation seems to be essential in moden watchmaking. So nothing new here other than the complexity, size and new materials being employed.
