G-P Issued Watches Commemorating Monte Carlo Rallies

It seems that Girard-Perregaux issued a series of limited edition chronographs commemorating some of the more noteworthy Monte Carlo rallies. An interesting approach, in which the brand establishes the motorsports connection and imagery, without claiming to have been part of the event, back in the day. I believe that G-P has recently been a sponsor of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique.

Here are the watches commemorating Monte Carlo rallies of 1965 and 1976. Perhaps there are more of these.

Interesting that the watch commemorating the 1973 Rally picks up on so many of the "Siffert" cues -- color scheme; tachymeter scale; etc. When we consider the amazing role that Heuer had in the Monte Carlo Rally, back in the 1950s and 1960s, with the dashboard timers used on so many of the competition cars, it's a shame that TAG Heuer didn't reclaim this historic connection. Of course, we all know that in today's market, it's about licensing and rights, rather than the pure historical connections.

Another great thing about the vintage Heuers . . . we get the genuine connection to the historic events, in the watches themselves!! No need to print the dates on the dials . . . our old watches are themselves connected to the golden age of motorsports!!

: Here's a nice looking watch from G-P (which I know absolutely
: nothing about) . . . so here's my "what if" question:
: What if TAG Heuer had offered something like this as a re-issue
: of the "Siffert" Autavia? What if it was powered by
: the El Primero (Calibre 36) movement?

: You can read more about the watch here --

: So are there any buyers out there?
