For me, the 39mm of the Jack Heuer LE in the middle is plenty big enough. And coincidentally the self same size as a second generation Carrera.
Sits well on the wrist, not too tall (the more invidious size creep of the modern chronograph) and on even the smallest wrist, the lugs aren't going to hang off the wrist.
We don't see it here, but many other watch fora often have posts asking "Is it too big for me?". If you're self-conscious enough to ask the question, then, yes, it's too big for you :) If the lugs even vaguely go over the boundaries of your wrist, it's too big for you. You wouldn't wear clown shoes (presumably), so don't wear a watch equally as many sizes too big for you.
I've been dabbling a little in sunglass fora recently (do I just have a lot of sunglasses, or is it a collection? time) and there I have found people much readier to say "I like X but it doesn't suit me, so I don't wear it". Part of me likes the "wear and be damned" attitude of the smaller of wrist wearing the bulkier of watch, but I think there's still space to come to the "it doesn't suit me" conclusion too.
