I agree with the replies so far. But I am only just getting into vintage watches and have had an addiction for dive watches. Since SubMariners have been brought up, I figure dive watches might not be too much of an assault on anyone's senses here.
In that arena, one of the most respected and coveted watches is the Seiko 6105. There's always decent availability in the $700 range, they're about as rare as Omega 3570.70 (one of my personal must-haves, or better a pre-moon, now that I'm enjoying vintage). So the Seiko created its own definitive look and has homage versions. (not my pics)
A micro-brand, Helson, has put a very nice twist on the design. Some hate it, but I like it. Cost about $600
Hopefully, not a bore to mention non-heuer watches. Let me know if I crossed a line(s).
