Re: Current Heuer prices out of control?

OK. I stand corrected then. I don't follow 1163s (and variants) much - I find them one of the more boring vintage Heuers! No offence intended.
The main part of my question is still - are fixers (including non Heuer) going for as much or more than nice examples? I used to do a buy a lot of fixers on ebay that I could restore and make a decent profit on, but rarely in the last couple of years. Craig

: That's the earlier 'more sought after' model Craig, so I'd expect
: more money for one of these. It's swings and roundabouts, for
: every high priced example, I'm sure you can find a low priced
: example too.

: IMHO, some Heuers are still competitively priced when you look at
: the 'competition'. A nicely sorted Autavia can still be yours
: for $3k, not bad for a chronograph with a shed load of real
: motorsport history behind it. Take a nice V72 Autavia, or
: Carrera.. compare that with a Daytona.. cheap as chips!! I think
: nowadays, serious collector who have never dipped their toes
: into heuer are starting to see the appeal, and they have big
: buying power.. they want one Heuer, a mint, correct, clean
: example, and will pay over the odds for such an example.
: Whereas us collectors.. we want a box full of them, so have to take
: it easy!! (all IMHO of course)

: What does distort the market sometimes is when a seller has a
: 'regular' Heuer, say an Autavia, but they see a rare Autavia
: sales price, and they think that's what theirs is worth. ie.
: Orange Boy 1163 sells for $7k, so the Viceroy must be worth $7k,
: etc.
