Thanks for grouping the pics.

: Hi Warren,
: For ease of identification by other OTDer, as your pics are on
: separate threads, I've grouped them together here:

: OTDers.. please chip in with your thoughts!! Can anyone ID the
: movement? Valjoux? It is marked "seventeen 17. jewels
: Swiss"

: From what I've seen so far, it I would be fairly certain that
: unfortunately this isn't an original Heuer pocket watch from the
: 80's, but would like others to chip in - happy to be proven
: wrong.

: So.. to re-cap..
: - Bought in early 80's by your Father.
: - Booklet is marked 721.208, which is for the Golden Hours
: wristwatch from c84-6, so doesn't belong with this pocket watch.
: Here is the 721.208 in the catalogue:

: - The box, as mentioned before, is unlike any Golden Hours box, or
: any box from Heuer in the 80s (or ever? Seems that the box is
: trying to mimic being 'very old' but the logo is the type Heuer
: used much later on??)

: - The logo on the inside of the box - ditto as above, and is poorly
: executed, spacing of wording under shield is off, highly
: unusual.
: - Round date window - Heuer never, as far as I know, never used a
: round window.
: - The Heuer shield on the dial is worryingly misaligned, it's quite
: a fair bit off going by the closer up photo.
: - Movement is not signed, case is not signed.
: - Moonphase has strange 24 hrs markings, Hands not 'en vogue' with
: other Golden Hours.
: - Moonphase disc artwork very unusual, not in-line with other
: Golden Hours.
: - Tachy scale around edge of dial, very strange choice for a pocket
: watch.
: - No lid that closes over the crystal.

: Generally speaking, the special edition pocket watches that Heuer
: released were of a very high quality, they really are stunning,
: the attention to detail is astonishing. They were like a
: showcase and some solid gold variants were very expensive, fully
: signed, cases delicately marked etc etc.
: Yours, no offense, is lacking some of these merits. The numerals on
: the sub dials are of a modern typeface, whereas the outer hour
: Arabic numerals are period vintage style, it doesn't quite add
: up.

: Here are Warrens Pics.. and I've added a closer up pic of the dial
: detail.. (hope these work!)

Thanks Stewart for grouping the pics and all the info. I called TAG Heuer today and that was a waist of time, they have no records for anything from the 80s or older. It just seems strange that it would have a nice swiss movement in a gold case and the rest of it be wrong. I guess we may never know what this watch really is. Warren
