eBay Siffert - No good?

Tried my hand at the 'bay yesterday on a Siffert Autavia, price was good (below 5k) and looked to be maybe a 4th or even 6th execution model; seller called it a 3rd. Had the GF bracelet too. However, it was listed as a Calibre 11, even though the serial number was 242xxx, which seemed high to me. So I actually felt kind of relieved when I was outbid, and let it go. So I put it to you gents - should I have fought more, or did I dodge a bullet?
