Last night in Watkins Glen, NY, home of the USGP from 1961-1980 (and where I was born and raised), Rush was shown to a packed house in the village's historical theater. The film followed a presentation by local historian Bill (Butch) Green who covered the history of the '76 USGP and the infamous victory celebration by Hunt at the Seneca Lodge. Joining Bill with the introduction was local racing journalist and former Tyrrell crew member, Rick Hughey. Rick focused on thanking the audience for attending, their interest in the history, and their support of the original event 37 years ago. Many in attendance last night were at the '76 USGP and volunteers, including my father who was a SCCA corner marshal, and my mother who delivered lunches to the various marshal stands.
If you ever find yourself in Watkins Glen a must see is the local racing museum, which I have linked to this post.
