Calibre11 Posting: TAG Heuer Calibre 1969 - First Look

David has posted his First Look at TAG Heuer's new in-house movement, the Calibre 1969 -- http://www.calibre11.com/tag-heuer-calibre-1969-first-look/

Yes, gentlemen, it will be a tri-compax movement, although not exactly what we are used to from the 1960s. Layout will be as follows:

  • 3 o’clock = chronograph minutes
  • 9 o’clock = chronograph hours
  • 6 o’clock = running seconds
Somehow, the date will be at 9 o'clock, meaning that it is within the chronograph hours register. One way of getting to this layout would be rotating the original Calibre 1887 movement, 90 degrees clockwise, and then dropping the running seconds from the top to the bottom (6 o'clock). Still, not sure whether this new Calibre 1969 will be a derivative of the 1887, a derivative of some other movement, or a brand new, white board effort.

Very exciting news for the Heuer world!! And you've got to love the name!! Indeed, 1969 was an amazing year for Heuer, with the introduction of the Cal 11 Chronomatics!!
