: I don't know much (anything!?) about Heuer's wartime up/down
: chronos.

: I assume this one has had a hasty redial job done on it, or did
: Heuer really produce salmon coloured dials in the 1940s?

: Educate me; what are the other alarm bells on this piece?

I am not an expert either but just having researched one of these "Vertical Register" Heuer Chronos I will give this one a whirl and see what the real experts say later.

First of all the seller does say "Dial: expertly restored, finished in salmon pink. Signed "Heuer" in his description. The following was Jarl Rehn-Erichsen's post after my question about these watches at URL http://www.chronocentric.com/forums/heuer/index.cgi?md=read;id=63683

There was two different up/down Heuer chronographs. The earliest one is from the early 1940s and has a unsigned Venus 170 movement. The Heuer logo on the dial is placed bellow the upper register and is of the early narrow type. The latest up/down chronograph, the ome you have, has a Ed. Heuer signed Valjoux 77. The Heuer logo is of later normal sized type and is placed inside the upper register. This watcj I belive is from the 1950s. Most of them is gold plated like yours.

I believe the Chrono in the eBay ad to be a total fake from the dial to the case to the movement. I think it started life as a similar generic VJ 77 based watch but from there Dr Frank got hold of it.

I will await more expert opinions.
