Sorry for jumping in late, but I was away this weekend and missed all the fun. What a great idea, Jeff. I enjoyed reading through everyone's picks and I now have a greatly expanded dream acquisition list. Some very impressive and interesting pieces out there.
My keepers, for now (I apologize for iPhone pics - didn't have a chance to take proper images for this):
#1 - 1967 Omega Seamaster 300
I have been wearing this more than any other watch. I love the simple dial and hands with the gorgeous matching patina. The matt dial has an interesting subtle texture, and it's profile and bezel are perfectly classic. It's movement springs to life with a quick turn of the wrist. And then there are the beautiful twisted lugs. I keep finding myself looking at sale postings for Rolex 5513 subs, which are obvious classics and I still hope to own one, but they are also so ubiquitous. I end up looking at my much more affordable SM300, and say "why bother?"
#2 - Heuer Silverstone Fume
For me, this watch just oozes 1970's style. Such a unique design and quite a presence on the wrist. I personally prefer the rounded corners of the Silverstone to the sharp one's on the Monaco. The lovely sunburst dial is so nice to look at, with varying appearance depending on light.
#3 - Autavia 11063V
This was a very close toss-up, but this bad-ass Autavia just edged out the classic 2446C. Love the heft of this one. The piano black dial with grey registers and white hands are just perfect. When wearing it, this watch adds a little strut to my step.
Cheers,
Jim
