A couple of weeks ago there were quite a few posts about "Orange Boys". Among the back and forths on this topic a reply from Jeff Stein started me thinking.
: Jeff said:
: Main Differences -- Viceory and Orange Boy . . . Start with a
: Viceroy, then: change all the red paint to orange, add the
: three orange stripes on the minute recorder, and use burnt
: orange needles on the chronograph recorders
So, I thought to myself...is Jeff simply stating the facts or is he being suggestive. Obviously I don't mean to suggest that I thought for even a moment that Jeff was suggesting that anyone take up manufacturing Orange Boys from Viceroys. However was he suggesting that it would be relatively easy?
When the price differential between a nice Viceroy and a nice Orange boy is perhaps as much as $6,000+ and the upgrade is as easy as Jeff suggests why wouldn't some talented and unscrupulous person or persons do it. For way less than this amount of profit per watch there is a whole industry of fake Rolex makers and I can tell you that if they can make fake Rolex dials as well as they do they could make real Viceroy dials into beautiful and virtually un-detectable Orange Boy dials.
Who will tell me they haven't already?
