What have BMW and Audi learnt from Heuer?

I have an interesting observation to discuss:

What have the 60ties and 70ties Heuer models in common with the very successful car manufacturer of today's world like BMW and Audi.

All models are based on the same designs. If you compare a BMW SUV with a BMW Roadster you will find out, that they are using the same designs for lights, bumpers, edges etc. so that you can immediatly spot that this car is a BMW. Furthermore, the successful car manufacturer of today's world have a very clear trademark and model policy. They may do an occassional facelift of a model but it is still a car of the same model category. Again, Audi and BMW pursue this strategy vigorously.

Heuer had been an avantgarde of this development. All the models like the Carreras', Autavias', Monzas' etc. use similar features and even if there would be no Heuer sign used anywhere on the watch you could immediatly spot that this must be a Heuer. They all use the fluted pushers, the same sort of hands, indexes, inner tachometre bezel, bezels etc. Furthermore, Heuer did consequently a face lifting of their models but using the same name like Carrera, Autavia etc. If you compare a Carrera from the early seventies with a Carrera Barrel it is very obvious that these models belong to the same series.

Jack Heuer has been a fantastic visioner to start to use such a consequent trademark and model policy in the early sixties and throughout the seventies. In my view this explains a lot of the fascination we all attach to the Heuer brand and the beautiful timepieces we collect.
