Hello,
I'm also portuguese and as Rodrigo as said earlier these are all names of portuguese african ex-colonies, that went through separation wars during the 1960's and early 1970's.
The correct translation of the text in the dials would be:
- "Armed Forces Cabo Verde" (left)
- "Armed Forces S. Tomé e Príncipe" (center)
- "Armed Forces Mozambique" (right)
"Armed Forces" in Portugal is used not only to navy, but to refer to all the military branches, including army, navy and air force.
I have never heard of army issued Heuers to our troops.
The backcase image that Rodrigo showed suggests that the watch could be army issued to the portuguese troops deployed in the region. I have no knowledge about that, but I happen to work as a psychologist with war veterans from that period. I can surely ask if someone ever saw or had that type of watch during their military service. Not many troops were deployed in São Tomé e Príncipe or Cabo Verde but there was a significant number in Moçambique, and I happen to know people from the Air Force, Navy, Army and Army Special Forces.
I will report to the forum on Thursday after meeting those people. Hope I can help to bring more info to the issue.
All the best,
Guilherme Canta
: Mozambique, Cape Verde and Sãotomé & Príncipe, that much you
: can glean just by reading the dials! All indeed Portuguese
: speaking, and attributed to the navies on the dial.
: As to how it came about, I have not the slightest!
