Getting the Black Coating to Stick to the Case
In Response To: Re: very cool ()

I have admired the barrel-shaped Carrera in Black PVD, but never owned one or even seen it in the metal. Love the colors -- contrast between the black, the white and the warm tone of the lume.

As we look at the "rough" PVD finish, we should recall that it was the difficulty of getting the PVD to adhere to the cases was a big problem for Heuer, in the mid-1970s. This is part of the explanation for the very limited production of the black PVD Monacos -- Heuer was not satisfied with the way the quality of the coating, and this was a particular problem with the sharp edges of the Monaco.

Seems to me that the black barrel-shaped Carrera might be almost as rare as the black PVD Monaco; we don't see many of them in a given year.

Thanks for these photos . . . no apology required!!
