That picture is just nuts!!
I was having a root around late last night for the box and coin, it was at my last house a couple years ago, so there's a good chance I still have it. Kind of irrelevant though as I will wear them till they are knackered, then moan like hell at the cost of buying a new pair the same!!! ten years later, still haven't found any I prefer.
From what little I have seen already, mine does have serial number on it, so they are an early pair.
I get what you mean about people collecting anything. bought a couple Ltd edition Mont Blanc Pens last year. BNIB and saw them in the cupboard while looking for sunglasses box. Im glad I stopped that collection at two! At least watches I wear them all :)
: There are probably people out there who collect pretty much
: anything under the sun.
: But all the Oakley X-metals are collected now, and Juliets probably
: the most popular. They have their own jargon, just like watch
: collectors, with talk of loose nose bridges and couplers!
: They have value too - BNIB (brand new in box, effectively NOS) go
: for between £300 and £400 in the UK (a bit less in the US
: thanks to greater supply, effectively the reverse of the Heuer
: situation), and even old knackered ones that need a tune-up
: (read: servicing) are coming in well over £100 nowadays. Rarer
: ones, like 24Ks or some of the Ichiros, occasionally nudge into
: 4 figures!
: I "only" have 8 pairs of Juliets amongst my Oakleys, but
: there are people much deeper in than I am. I think this picture
: speaks for itself:
:
: They make watches too, but I haven't had the heart to tell those
: collectors that the watches really aren't all that... several
: thousand for a quartz watch from what is effectively a fashion
: brand? I think I'll pass.
