Re: Best Wishes for a Speedy Recovery

A lightning bolt will forge the shortest path (least resistance) to ground.

Aircraft are very regularly struck by lightning and generally there is little or no damage as the streak will attach itself on external metal structure and travel out via a wing, nose or tail tip. Due to the extensive lightning protection, the only thing that you are likely to notice is a short blip on instruments and cabin lighting (as well as a flash and a bang) .

I suppose cars are no different in that you have a conductive outer skin with rubber tyres (normally reinforced with steel) that keep the wheel hub only only a couple of inches from the ground. A bit of water and there you go a very low resistance circuit to ground. Only downside is the lack of specific lightning protection ... ouch!

get well soon and you are one lucky chap according to stats with 1 person in every 600000 per year and a 1 in 6000 chance of being struck in a lifetime !

: Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. We want to hear that
: you are 100% OK, then we can hear about the Verona!!

: Maybe my recollection is incorrect, but why have I heard previously
: that cars are safe in lightening, because of the rubber tires?
: Incorrect, I must assume? Or perhaps it is the tires that make
: the car a dangerous place to be?
