Hi all,
This was an Ebay punt - no movement shot, no serial number, looked like an early compressor case 2446c GMT with the wrong hands but with what looked like a double grains of rice bracelet.
The seller said his father bought the watch new in 1969, and that he had the original service booklet and instruction manual.
I was unable to resist a watch with such a provenance, so I made one solitary bid before going to bed, and when I woke up in the morning, I had won the auction.
So it arrived in the mail today, and here's what I got - 2446c GMT with serial number 110353 (earlier than the range mentioned in Jeff's Autavia Reference Table), faded bezel, some marks on the crystal but dial looks to be in good condition with even patina (hour sub-register marked 'T'), first execution compressor caseback with engraved 'Heuer Autavia' faded but visible, plain pushers, GF bracelet stamped 1/68, later (?service) hands, and original service booklet and instruction pamphlet!
What do the experts think? Is this a rather early 2446c GMT with service hands, or a put-together parts watch?
Should I be concerned about the early serial number?
Thanks in advance, and Happy Xmas, everyone!
