Hi all, I'm new to the forum after being pointed towards Heuerville on WUS. This is essentially a repost from there hoping to find additional info on this watch.
I've just inherited some older watches, including this Heuer 844 diver. I believe it's a Monnin-made version - the dial is correctly labeled with french spellings, and made in france. The serial number on the rear under 844 is in the 5000s, and everything I have seen online agrees with what this is.
The automatic movement is still running, and while the crown correctly adjusts the time and date, it feels like it's a little rough. I'd like to have the movement serviced, and as my wife and I have modern Tag Links, their US service center came to mind.
Cosmetically, the bracelet is wrong (looks like a fake Omega repo), and the bezel insert is a little rough, but aside from that I think it looks good. I'll probably replace the bracelet with something a little higher quality and leave the rest of it alone.
So, two questions. First, what's the best way to have this watch serviced? If the answer is local watch repair shops, I'd take suggestions for the SF Bay Area.
Second, is there a good quality aftermarket bracelet to use? I believe the case is similar but not the same as early Tag 1000s.
Thanks!
