Re: Gold plated Heuer- Opinion requested

: However, from collecting other brands, my first priority is to collect what I like and secondly if you like what is out of favor there is the potential for purchasing value.

Absolutely agree. If you buy even a little "off piste", there are notable savings to be made. Whether that be gold-plated or one of the less well-known models outside the Heuer "big three", there are some nice watches out there that make a good entry point into Heuer collecting.

: Anyway, I think there is a place in anyone's collection for a gold or gold plated Heuer.

: I am not a cheerleader for gold plated Heuer watches. I do like the SS models much more but it just seems that there is a big difference in price and
: potentially a good opportunity to purchase value for those wanting to start or add to a collection.

I have been something of a cheerleader for gold Heuers in the past, when I thought them undervalued and underappreciated. The gold-plated ones not so much, but my example of the watch you picture stands shoulder to shoulder with steel and gold in what Jeff has called my calling card:

You could even go the whole way and really alienate people with gold-plated and quartz:

Maybe not to everyone's taste but it doesn't have to be - and all of those came in under $450. Getting a mechanical for twice that is a great deal, possibly one you won't see again unfortunately.

: Could someone give me their opinion on the watch below? Is it a good specimen worthy of $900.

Looks fine to me. Getting any Carrera (that isn't quartz) for under $1000 is a great buy nowadays (assuming it's not a basket case).
