: David,
: I hate to disagree but a Paul Newman is sort of like this watch but
: not really. This watch has a dial with the subs tick marked the
: same as on the watch most generally considered to be a Paul
: Newman but the classic Paul Newman has a white dial with black
: outer ring with red ticks and matching black subs (panda). It is
: a cool looking watch but not really Paul Newman in the classic
: sense. Mr Newman did have a black dialed Daytona with white subs
: but his had a black bezel as far as I know.
: This watch is sort of a polar opposite Newman. I admit to not
: having updated my vintage Daytona knowledge in a while. I used
: to buy them years ago when they were still under $10,000 but
: don't pay much attention now. Maybe the definition has changed.
: Please correct me if I am wrong...but I don't think so.
: Best

A quick google search shows that respected Rolex dealers call this dial a Newman. I can't comment on the situation years ago, but that seems to be what the market is calling them today. I'm far from a Daytona expert, that's just what I see online...
