I saw the exact same watch and thought the exact same thing. This is why I love vintage watches, they came out of a purer environment. Watches used to be designed by engineers and crafstmen. Now they're designed by marketing departments. I love the old Heuers because they were worn (spontaneously) by the racing crowd because of the company's work in race clock management. That was real and organic.
Today, all the tie-ins that watch brands have with racing or sailing or flying or diving, etc. all feel very contrived. They're all a stretch. Do you really believe a modern astronaut is going to manually wind up his chrono every day? If you were responsible for the lives of divers, astronauts, etc. would you furnish them with mechanical anythings if there were a more reliable and accurate electronic alternative?
When Swiss watches stopped becoming tools and became lifestyle statements, that's when I basically tuned out anything recently made.
: Alert: The watch brands are running out of ideas, so now they
: are putting Greek gods and horse heads on the dials.
: What else are you seeing?
