Bob:
I believe that the current state of affairs is that several collectors maintain their own lists of serial numbers / watch descriptions. There is no central registry maintained by TAG Heuer, but this system of private lists seems to be working satisfactorily.
I have a list of around 750 serial numbers (developed with another of our "regulars") . . . it's an incredible source of information, which I am happy to share on a selective / limited basis, based on the facts and circumstances.
We have toyed with the concept of a public registry, but here are lots of issues -- both technical, operational and philosophical. Maybe another instance in which our community is doing OK, with an informal catch-as-can-catch approach.

: Lanny: How does one use the serial number to verify the the model?
: Is there a central database to do this? I've been led to believe
: Heuer did not keep such detailed records.
