I don't think I could tell you any more than you know. There may have been a period when they used both types of hands.
I like the way the thick hands look, especially the ones with a pointy tip, but the thin ones are definitely more functional.
The ones on the top Compax in the picture look like Daytona hands, don't they?

Is there any chance you could post a picture of your AeroCompax 24h?
I'm curious, I've never had one of those.
