"Informal Auction" Seems Like Perfect Approach
In Response To: Auction ()

I can understand your mixed feelings, but I believe that this "informal auction" will be the perfect way to sell this watch, and I encouraged the seller to use this approach. Reasons are as follows:

  1. Good way to determine the value: With so few comparable sales of this model, it is very difficult to determine the value of this watch. So why not let those who are interested in buying the watch set the price.
  2. Avoid the eBay fees: Yes, he can conduct this same type of auction on eBay, but the hassle and fees are considerable . . . . Neither buyer nor seller will have any fees on ChronoTrader.
  3. Plenty of traffic: With 400 views through the first 13 hours, we can say that this watch is getting more exposure on ChronoTrader than it would have had on eBay. Yes, there are definitely some potential bidders who would have seen a listing on eBay, but will not see it on ChronoTrader, but we can also say that some prospective bidders will find it more appealing to bid here than on eBay. I am guessing that the 400 views here include most of the "usual suspects" who appreciate the value of this watch and are of higher "quality" than an equivalent number of views on eBay.
Some prospective bidders may be turned off by this "informal auction" format, and they may choose not to participate. They may want to ask themselves when they might see another of these offered for sale, in any market.

So how do others react to this "informal auction" approach?

Jeff
