Mystery No. 178 -- Star of David (Six-Sided) on the Dial?

In late 2010, Stewart asked about the six-sided star that appears on the dial of some Heuer watches from the 1950s. Stewart asked the significance of this star, but we were unable to provide a response. Here is Stewart's posting -- http://chronocentric.com/forums/heuer/index.cgi?md=read;id=38835

And here is the watch that Stewart used to illustrate the question.

Someone asked the question again this morning, so I created the "collage" (below), showing images from a 1957 brochure, and a couple of actual watches.

A couple of ideas: Maybe the star indicates a certain type of waterproofing? Notice the asterisk at the bottom of the brochure page, with the indication "Wasserdicht". Or perhaps the star indicates a certain type of movement or feature? Stewart suggested that other brands may have also used this type of star.

Can anyone solve this mystery?

Jeff
