Jeff...you say tomato and I say...;) To me they are both from the same "series" and the only reason the black one was named Orange Boy was that is was seen in the vintage market first. Better to call both the same and refer to white or black OB than call them different things, for ease of description if nothing else. The point should be made (and I do make it whenever I can) that ALL the other dials/refs are NOT Orange Boys. merely dials with Orange accents. But as I say I say tomato...

Re the transitional screw back case, it's anyone's guess. I'd say you could make a case on those straight edged cases for either of your below thoughts, I've got two both in the 8xxxx range. I asked two ex Heuer 1960-70s guys who said they'd never noticed, so whatever it was, it is likely to have been subtle and possibly not intentional, just a batch that were not finished in the same way...
