Jeff - this is the same watch that sold on eBay last week at $6,500
Cos Cob is one of the 5 towns that makes up Greenwich, CT.
I woke up in the middle of the night, and happened to check my ebay account on my phone, as is habit.
Saw the watch, saw the location and figured, pull the trigger, inspect it in the metal and then decide.
I met with the seller and his mother the next day at the Riverside starbucks. The son was an avid estate sale hunter here in Greenwich, and picked it up a couple of months ago. He had no knowledge of the history but based his listing price on where some other seafarers had traded recently, he was un aware of the rarity of the case type.
The photo's were horrendous, but the watch was in terrific shape - so I pulled the trigger figuring it would be a better deal than competing with those on Antiquorum.
I'll try to get some good macro's going this week - to post on OTD.
