I don't think they have been polished out like Phunlezz suggests.. the case seems to be in too good a condition for that.
This question has been asked before, and Arno (big collector) said that some cases did not have the model & serial markings between the lugs.. see old thread here:

Please note, that I'm far from a Bund expert.. so further investigation or input from others is recommended!
