I have thought Siffert 1163 are undervalued for some time and I believe this result is about right because it was a very nice example. May well be a couple of thousand examples sold but only a small % are as nice as this.
This watch had many things in its favour...
Early serial.
Very clean dial (many are dirty and marked).
Unpolished case in nice condition (underated imo by many).
Original lume (quite uncommon as many have been relumed again underated).
Not only original lume but nice colour and matching dial/hands.
Nice (mint) bezel, and MH will always be more desired as rarer.
Box and bracelet (1/69) worth circa £1500.
All of the above make this watch worth much more than an average one, and I believe we will see the best condition and rarest Heuer' become more sought after compared to average/ok examples. I don't think this should be a surprise to anyone involved in collecting desirable vintage watches or cars, art etc for example.
Cheers

: I'm a bit confused on why a few people here on OTD think what they
: would pay for a Siffert is what it should be worth. For that
: matter, any specific watch.
: Why is it crazy that someone would pay more for a watch than what
: the guy next to him "thinks" its worth. I am an
: amateur collector, so I am no expert by any means, but in my
: personal belief, and someone who is willing to spend a lot of
: money on these vintage pieces each month, a big attraction
: outside of the brand is the unique looking quality and scarcity
: of a watch. From all the various Autavia's that I have seen, the
: Siffert stands out to me due to the fact that it has the white
: dial and blue hands, which in my opinion, makes this watch
: "pop" against all other Autavia's. In addition, there
: are not too many of them out there (from what I read maybe a
: couple thousand). So what one person thinks an item is worth, vs
: what someone is willing to pay, does not make the value of an
: item over or under valued. To each his own. Only history will
: tell. My 2 cents.
