I don't want to make any judgement about the sentiment expressed in either the letter or the response but I think the whole thing is a very interesting encapsulation of the relationship between a collector and a watch manufacturer. I will just say, that as a collector who owns hundreds of watches and who has owned thousands of watches over the years, one big difference between John Mayer and me is I have never and probably never will buy a new watch from a retailer or a manufacturer for my "collection." Maybe these two letters tell me why.
Anyway these are two interesting reads.
