Absolutely Agree . . . There's Hodinkee (and Everyone Else)
In Response To: The power of Hodinkee ()

I absolutely agree with you, both in terms of the headline and in terms of the specifics of this situation.

Based on the traffic stats for OnTheDash and the related Heuer and ChronoTrader forums, I can tell you that there's nothing in our little vintage watch world that can generate the kind of traffic that we get from a Hodinkee feature, posting, mention, Tweet, etc. Hodinkee broke the code a few years ago, in terms of how to address online watch journalism, and it has been good fun to witness the success of the site.

Best of all, Ben, Eric and some of the other Hodinkee guys are genuine Heuer enthusiasts. So the enthusiasm for the watches we buy and sell, and the interest in OnTheDash, comes naturally for them.

: I listed my 1930s Heuer Chronograph for sale at Chronotrader and
: Ebay without any takers. There was suprisingly little interest
: for this rare Heuer Chrono.

: That was about to change. I got in touch with Eric Wind at
: Hodinkee. I knew he liked my old Heuer. Eric wanted to include
: my watch in the weekly "What's selling" article.

: This Friday a picture of my Heuer was heading the article. Eric
: made a very nice write up about my watch and linked to
: Chronotrader and Ebay.

:
:

: In less than 30 minutes the watch was sold at asking price, the
: emails from buyers continued for a couple of days. The ad on
: Chronotrader has been seen by more than 1.200 viewers. Prior to
: the post on Hodinkee the number was around 50....
