Ross, have the measurements of the crown taken and I will gladly compare with mine. I have a few 2447 and 3647 Carreras with signed crowns, which are all the same size.
Regarding the hands: Probably Jeff is right with his assumption that they have been replaced during service. Anyway, the service watchmaker should have realized the significant length difference between old and new. Who knows...
If it indeed is a "transitional model", the serial number should be quite high. I personally have my doubts, because I assume no watchmaker at the Heuer factory with a certain amount of feel for aesthetics would have put the over-length hands on the Tachy model. And I have not seen another one yet (which doesn't mean much, of course).
