Greetings from Amsterdam, where this gorgeous Nomos Zurich GMT has proven quite useful.
Meanwhile, yesterday, I visited the Amsterdam Watch Company and a nice gentleman named Jacco — many of you know him — showed me around and talked vintage watches with me for an hour. The store, if you haven't had the pleasure of visiting it, is very nice. I should have taken photos of the layout. Two-level, open floorplan with cases around the rim. Decent selection of vintage Patek, Rolex, and Omega. On the Heuer side, they had a nice 1163V, a Calculator and maybe one other that I can't remember.
When I told Jacco I was most interested in Heuer, he told me he had another one that was not for sale, but kept in the back and asked if I wanted to see it. This is what he brought out:
Undoubtedly authentic Heuer, but unlike anything I've ever seen. Wide lume plots, that white outer track, the chrono register. Everything on this watch is perfect. The case looked like it had been refinished by Abel (but it's clearly original). The box is hard and rigid like the day it was first sold. Full paper set. Corfam strap with sun buckle. The case back is engraved with initials and the engraving is crisp and deep. All around, a ridiculous watch that I imagine will sell quite quickly and for many bills — whenever AWCO decides to sell it.
Cheers from Amsterdam, a beautiful city where the "new" buildings are 300 years old.
