...even at my young age I could already write a book about these "war" stories...
It's so nice to see such a watch appear here that was "found" on eBay. Think this is a VERY rare example indeed!
About the hands...well ofcourse when you would be able to find an earlier set of hands (without black stripe) with intact tritium matching the dial...that would be just perfect...but in the meanwhile I'd be very happy with it as is...just get a new plexi on it...the minute and hour hands on your Autavia have probably been replaced at a service with later ones...
Just a quick thought...maybe minute and hour hands with black stripe "could" be OK for later serials on the 3rd (4th?) generation 2446 screw backs. I have that special 2446 Yachting (serial 900xx) which also has those minute and hour hands with black stripe...and according to my feeling...that watch was born with those hands as the patina is just similar to the dial patina...(luminosity of tritium in UV light). Just a thought. Pic attached.
Unfortunately for me...the first and last thing I do every day...is to see the work that is screaming to be done...haven't been active on eBay a lot in last 2 years...I think I'll need to set eBay again as my homepage rather then OTD ;-)
Best,
abel.
