Lately, we have had some interesting messages about the bargains -- specifically, a $2.00 Autavia Viceroy (found at a garage sale) and a $5.00 Autavia GMT (found in a watchmaker's shop). Thinking back a bit, other memorable "bargains" have been an Autavia GMT that went on ebay for the $9.95 BuyItNow price and a Rally-Master pair that sold for $800, also on an ebay BuyItNow.
Here's the request for a special Scan Day, to be held this coming Monday, January 24th: Tell us about your favorite bargain.
- THE BARGAIN -- the one that you found really cheap, and were lucky enough to be able to snag. Where did you find it? Do you still grin when you look at it?
- THE TYPO in the ebay listing, that allowed you to find one that all the regulars missed
- THE NASTY PHOTO -- the photo that was so awful, that it allowed you to find one that others could not see (or maybe they saw it, but didn't see the real watch.
- THE SWEET DEAL -- maybe you have never found a $2.00 Heuer or a $5.00 Heuer, so tell us about a good deal / bargain that came your way. I mean, there's no shame in paying $600 for one that turns out to be worth $1,800
- THE ONE YOU MISSED. Still stumped?? OK, tell us about that most painful of all events -- the bargain that got away. the BuyItNow that vanished as you were hitting the bid button? the time you were the second to respond to ultra-cheap listing?
- THE JERK. Here's another possibility from the dark-side -- tell us about the bargain you almost had, but the seller relaized the value of what he had and refused to complete the deal.
so answer the call with a story, a photo, or maybe a list of the winners / losers in all six categories (and six photos). feel free to create your own categories if you prefer another approach.
many of us are complaining that ebay is getting too competitive, or that the dollar is too weak, or that the crooks are everywhere, but just this week, I have heard of three Heuer purchases, for a total of $10 (ten US dollars), where the value of the chronographs totalled well over $5,000 . . . and all these purchases were made within the last six months.
so stop whining, and start posting your happy stories!
thanks in advance.
