Another Steve McQueen racing suit, worn during the filming of Le Mans, sold today at $425,000 (including the buyer's premium) -- http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22486/lot/245/
That's definitely a bargain compared to the one that was sold in December 2011, at $984,000, as described here -- http://thoughts.onthedash.com/thoughts/two-recent-sales-of-steve-mcqueen%E2%80%99s-racing-suit-829000-left-on-the-table/
So here's the question: With each one of these that is discovered and put on the auction block, do we expect the price to decline? Is the $984,000 suit still worth that much, because of some superior provenance or otherwise? Do the experts believe that they know how many of these suits Steve McQueen actually wore and how many have survived? There must be some assumed quantity of these . . . maybe three, four or five? Just wild guesses, on my part.
One thing for sure, the old Heuer have done better than the old racing suits, over the last few years.
