: Hello all,
: After receiving the watch I decided to open the caseback in order
: to have a quick look at the movement. Again, using on the dash
: as reference I came to the conclusion that the watch features
: the 11-I movement. It features the different springs and the I
: underneath the balance wheel.
: My watchmaking knowledge is close to non existent so I decided to
: leave it at that and did not remove the chronograph module in
: order to have a look at the barrel etc.
: Anyway, this is when it started get confusing for me.
: I always thought that Viceroys used the 12 movement instead of the
: 11-I. I did however, read that since it was produced until 1973
: a few of them featured the 11-I calibre as well.
: The serial number 277XXX is not featured on the Autavia reference
: table. However it is not clear to me if they were used in an
: ascending fashion according to chronological order. From the
: table I cannot say that it seems so.
: I then had a look at the lugs in order to see if it featured the
: two stars or the arrows. I can see two small marks that look
: like arrows but the lugs are a bit scratched due to all the
: strap changes throughout the years. So I cannot be sure why they
: are even though those two tiny marks are a bit more prominent
: than the scratches. I will be attaching pictures of that as
: well. Is it definite that absolutely ALL the cases featuring the
: 11-I calibre had these markings?
: Anyway, my question is if this could be one of the Pre-Viceroys
: with the exact same specification as the Viceroy ones which are
: mentioned on the reference table?
: And now the pictures.
Aris,
I can't answer all of your questions but I can tell you that I have a 1163 in the same case with the same markings and a very close serial number to yours also with the same Cal 11-I movement. I have always wondered if it was a movement switch. Now that yours has surfaced...maybe not. My feeling is that as long as it is marked "V" under the 1163, it is a Viceroy.
