Wow, not sure how I missed this post, but I also own a ref. 3006. My father was the first owner and now we share the watch. Our's has a different date wheel (white and black) and an unsigned crown, which appears to be different from yours.
I am jealous of your original sweep second hand...when Tag Heuer serviced our's in 2009 they replaced the faded original with an incorrect sweep, but someday I will either find an original replacement or have the original reinstalled if possible.
I don't know much of the history for ref. 3006, other than what you can find here. My dad selected his out of a US catalog in maybe '79 or '80, so it was in the US market as well.
