I too thought this would be under the radar! LOL! I was a phone bidder but as soon as the auction started, it jumped to $8k from a floor bidder, and hoping to snatch a "steal" evaporated in seconds! The final price of $9440 was a strong closing, but I don't agree with John's friends on the $5k value on this GMT.
This is a 1st Execution 2446c GMT with a very nice bezel, and the hands/dial looked good too. The only issue I saw was the caseback seemed to be overpolished, since I did not see any engraving on it, so I suspect the sticker was placed on later. These GMTs have been climbing in price based on eBay and forum sales I have seen. The last one that sold was in December for an MK4, and that went for $6.6k with polished caseback as well, on eBay:

I believe the value of 1st Executions in todays market are around $7-9k IMHO, depending on condition. Even these prices I still believe is undervalued based on the fact that they are one of the nicest Heuer GMT examples with a Val 72 movement and a great case that has lugs. We are seeing standard (non GMT) 2446c selling close to $10k already, and a GMT is worth less? Prices have been climbing on them, and I predict they will continue to see this climb with each sale. I anticipate these to be get to $10k+ very soon based on how the general vintage market is moving. The momentum with Heuer's has not stopped, but collectors are being pickier on examples, looking for earlier execution and mint or untouched pieces.
Of course this is my own humble opinion, but a good debate to have.
: This went through the auctions at the weekend, I guess nothing
: slips through the net nowadays!
