Re: "Have a Dealer"
In Response To: "Have a Dealer" ()

It's very convenient to come to this conclusion when you are a dealer...

I don't have a dealer nor do I need/want one. I've learned along the way (at some cost I'll admit though the loss has been far outweighed by the many successful and profitable transactions). I apply what I've learned about the field I am interested in, know what I want , and know how to get it. I will continue to operate this way and don't need bloggers/dealers to steer my tastes or to sell me something.

Many venues which have been blogs or websites that convert into stores/dealers these days omit too much for me to put my trust into. One isolated example, one particular website that I'm sure many of us subscribe to their daily email newsletter/advertisements (C&*) wanted to charge a $125ish fee to "service" a my Lemania 5100 powered Carrera. I just don't believe they are doing anything aside from opening the back and putting it one a timing machine all the while falsely adding value to a watch they are attempting to list.

Yes, I'll admit that said place does make it easier to sell a pre-owned watch but they don't offer anything other than a quick google search of your reference number for "market research". The quoted me low estimates based on easily found similar model sales but they quickly overlooked important details when coming to a valuation. I declined their offer and proceeded to sell my watch reasonably quickly and at a far higher price than they would list it at. I asked about the possibility of them listing it at what I knew it was worth and they declined. No hard feelings but if they do what they claim they do then they have the busiest and most underpaid master watchmakers in the country.

Just a few thoughts on the subject of dealers. Rant over, off to bed.
