My apologies, I've been in the design field most of my working life, so I had my 'designers hat' on.
Yes, it's similar in the sense that it has capital letters in a plain font with an enclosed border. But, all through the early mid 20th century, that was a popular design feature for a lot of mechanical based type businesses. (oil, engines, garages, motorshops etc etc). But I wouldn't say that it was a deliberate mimic.
I'd say it mimics that boom time in everything to do with engines.
