: I'm definitely not going to cover all 100 of the watches, but
: thought that it would be fun to highlight some of the
: interesting items, over the next few days.
: I find this pair of stopwatches intriguing, especially the sticker
: on the back of the case. We start with the stopwatches
: themselves -- a matching pair of 1/100 second stopwatches, with
: the usual three-function crown (stop / reset / start). And, of
: course, the "Wing and Wheel" logo on the dial!!
: The red rubber case is from "Champion", the maker of
: spark plugs, and long associated with racing and Heuer.
Jeff,
From 1935-1969 Champion Sparkplugs sponsored a "100mph Club" for drivers who completed the Indy 500 at an average speed of 100mph.
See the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_mph_Club
Members of the club received several awards including, for at least a time, a double stop watch set of somewhat higher quality than the one you pictured.
I believe that the stopwatch set you have pictured is one that Champion handed out to dealers and other dignitaries who came to the track. It was sort of a replica of the 100mph club award.
