I had thought of that motto, too.
Then, thinking of people like this Paul, something else came back into my mind suddenly...a song I had heard a long time ago, back in the good ole days in Arizona.....with a refrain that (partly) went like this:
"Were you born an a**hole, or did you work at it your whole life?" ....
