I've been playing around with a 105 mm macro leans, rather than the usual 60 mm macro. Getting the lens further away from the watch certainly makes it easier to get more light on the watch. Of course, working at this longer distance has its own challenges, as this takes me to the limit of the Manfrotto "Magic Arm".

I've learned that the is no one perfect set-up, and it all depends on the watch, the look you are trying to achieve, etc. But you probably knew that from your years of experience with photography!!
