Thanks Bernard. Fingers crossed it's just the crystal.

It's helpful to know that you think that I paid a good price as I can be confident that there is some scope for some restoration - I thought I might restore the original finish to the case and bracelet, replace the crystal and perhaps even replace the hands as the originals appear to be very faded.

Any thoughts on who might be able to help with this work, in the UK ideally but not necessarily, would be greatly appreciated.
