Many thanks to everyone for their advice.

The watch arrived today and I am really pleased. The scratch was on the crystal rather than the dial as hoped and the condition is otherwise excellent and original. Photos below.

The seller at the auction was apparently the original owner who had acquired it when buying an Audi Quattro in the UK.
