I didn't think this colour was original but it explains why we see so many of these 'brown' dials. One slightly puzzling thing-these earlier dials were termed as 'charcoal grey' so you would have thought had a grey tinge, not brown. I guess from a marketing point of view a 'charcoal grey dial' is better than a 'brown dial' perhaps....
