Here's a detailed review and analysis of the what happened at the auction, by Cara Bennett, on Hodinkee -- In-Depth The Sale Of Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona, The Most Expensive Wristwatch Ever.
Simple summary -- "However, fortunately for us, the sale of the Paul Newman Daytona has started a new chapter for the watch industry. Never before has a watch drawn so much attention to our world." It was interesting to see how many people "outside" the watch world, heard about this sale. Beyond hearing about the sale -- they were interested in the watch and the fact that it sold for this much money.
