Make sure the retaining wire is in the correct place.. this is important. Also, make sure the wire is true, and not bent awkwardly.
Then with equal pressure around the bezel with your fingers, push down and twist in an anti-clockwise movement. Push down and twist firmly, keeping the bezel flat.
It might take 10 attempts, but that's the best way.
(If you are left handed, try push down and twist clockwise - may be easier)
